Title: Brain Teaser for the day

1
Brain Teaser for the day
  • A girl is involved in an accident in Glasgow. Her
mother is in London at the time. The girl is
taken to the Royal Infirmary. The girl is treated
by a nurse. The girl is the nurses daughter
  • How is this possible?

2
Drugs and the Law
  • Should the law be changed??

3
Arguments FOR changes
  • Possession penalty should be lowered e.g.
cannabis possession could mean up to 2 years in
    prison
  • Cases have to be diverted from courts as not able
to deal with all the cases
  • Police time would be better spent chasing drug
    dealers

4
Arguments FOR changes
  • Sending drug users to prison does not solve the
problem as a recent Scotland Today programme
showed cases of drug users who gained access to
    drugs in prison
  • tough love not a complete success

5
Arguments FOR changes
  • Cannabis should be legalised to make it distinct
    from dangerous drugs
  • Can help ease symptoms of multiple sclerosis and
    other illnesses
  • Less harmful than legal drugs such as tobacco and
    alcohol
  • Black market endangers peoples lives as they
lack knowledge e.g. Leah Betts died from drinking
too much water not from ecstasy
  • Also do not know what is in drug due to no
    regulations or monitoring

7
Arguments Against changes
  • Laws should not be changed as Britain has a high
level of users, 4 million with 3 million cannabis
    smokers
  • Cannabis can lead to the use of harder drugs,
    affect concentration
  • Lowering penalties will increase drug users,
violent crime which has increased has being
linked to drugs, e.g. crack cocaine therefore
    harsher penalties required

8
Arguments Against changes
  • No conclusive evidence of long term drug taking
but reports have shown cannabis can have a wide
    range of harmful effects
