- Tobacco use is one of the chief preventable
causes of death in the world. - WHO attributes 4.9 million deaths a year to
tobacco, a figure expected to rise to 10.0
million by 2030. - 70 of those deaths will occur in developing
countries.

- Purpose
- To enhance the capacity of countries to design,
implement, and evaluate their comprehensive
tobacco control programs
8Methodology
- School-based survey
- Survey can include public and/or private schools
- Two-stage sample design
- First, schools selected proportional to
enrollment size - Second, classrooms chosen randomly in selected
schools - All students in selected classes eligible for
participation - Anonymous and confidential self-administered
questionnaire - Administered during 1 class period -- about 30
minutes
