Some Qualities/Characteristics of an Officer

• Good character and integrity
• Exercise initiative in their work
• Have the ability to carry a great deal of
  responsibility in handling difficult situations
  alone
• Mental capacity to learn a wide variety of
  subjects quickly and correctly
• Desire and ability to adapt thinking to
  technological and sociological changes in today's
  world
• Emotional maturity, physical strength, and
  ability to remain calm in emotionally charged
  situations

What to Do in High School

• A student should focus on getting good grades
  while in high school (a B average) since there is
  a lot of mental preparation in the academy, so
  naturally, being well educated will impress
  sergeants and increase ones chances of
  graduating.

Police Academy

• Think of this as Cop School, where each
  individual is trained to become an officer.
  Police in training must be physically fit to pass
  a series of physical tests. Each person must also
  study different codes, scenarios, etc. After
  completion of the Police Academy, there is a
  graduation that permits those who passed to be
  qualified as officers, so they can be hired by
  Departments.

Day to Day

• The day to day routine of a police officer is
  patrolling the city looking for felonies,
  misdemeanors, infractions, law breakers, crimes
  in progress, etc. Most of what happens usually
  isn't anything too serious or harmful (though
  there is a risk in everything they do), but there
  are those calls that come every now and then that
  puts the every day cop into an extremely
  dangerous situation. Cops answer calls through
  walkie-talkies and cell phones, are protected by
  bullet proof vests and carry a tasergun and
  firearm (usually a pistol) on duty.
