The First Round of River Basin Planning

• Seven Basins
• Started in the summer of 1999
• The Platte River Basin Plan will be completed
  early in 2006

• Public participation has and will continue to be
  a large component of the plans
• Basin Advisory Groups (BAGs)
• Develop basin issues list
• Review draft products
• Assist in the development of Future Water Use
  Opportunities

• What is it?
• The Framework Water Plan will consolidate the
  data developed for the seven individual plans
  into a single statewide water plan.

• What will it provide?
• It will provide a statewide perspective for water
  resource planners
• It will set the course for the next round of
  river basin plans
• It will include a statewide presentation tool
  that is internet based

• What will not change.
• It will not replace the individual basin plans
• It will not be a competition between basins
• There will not be voting
• All minority opinions will be considered

• GIS
• Summarizing the data developed for the plans
• Determining the best way to address differences
  in the data

• Recommendations for inclusion of ground water in
  the next round of basin plan
• Recommendations on how to address water rights in
  the next round
• Outline any data that needs to be added or
  corrected
• Other recommendations for the next round of River
  Basin Planning

What is the timeline?

• Notice to Proceed has been issued
• The 50 progress meeting has been scheduled for
  July 11th in Casper
• Consultants will attend the summer and winter
  2006 BAG meetings to discuss progress with the
  full BAG
• Final Report will be due June 2007
