In this session

• Examine the overlooked use of colour and text.
• Colours for the web and advanced colours like
  gradients.
• Fonts provide core but tweaking creates unique
  style.

The Colour Palette

• Any of the applicable drawing tools have the
  fill or gradient colours.
• Colour will stay in place for any drawing until
  other colour is chosen.
• Radial gradients are excellent for items such as
  buttons as they give an impression of 3D.

Solid Colours

• Quite often you will want to use your own
  specific colours and Flash can produce an almost
  infinite number.
• Colour in Flash is comprised of magnitudes of
  red, green and blue along with alpha
  (transparency).

Gradient Colours

• Gradients must always have a minimum of two
  colours.
• Drag the pointers to adjust the fall off rate
  for that colour.
• You add new gradient pointers by shift clicking
  on the scale. Remove them by dragging them clean
  off the scale.

Colour Misc.

• If its not visible, the colour mixer panel can
  always be accessed by selecting Window gt Colour..

Adding Text

• Animated text can be a superb way of bringing
  flash movies to life.
• Always an overlay level object so it will always
  reside on top of stage level objects within the
  same layer.
• Text begins life in text boxes but it is usually
  broken apart so it can be edited on a per letter
  or word basis.

• A text label is denoted by a small circle in the
  top right of the box.
• Text box is similarly marked with a small square
  in top right.

Format Text

• Superior to arrow tool when selecting irregular
  shapes.
• Margin indent measurements default to the
  settings applied to the ruler. This can be
  changed in Modify gt Movie by entering a new ruler
  unit.

Manipulate Text

• As well as normal text formatting, text can also
  be manipulated as if it where a graphic.
• Rotate letters or words on their own. Too much
  rotated text can be hard to read.

• As the final part of the drawing lessons. We have
  examined the key use of colour and text.
• Colour is considerably more robust than it seems.
• Text also can be altered to create unique styles.
