1
Class Policies and Procedures
  • English III
  • Ms. Huddleston

2
This Year is About Community
  • We will study American literature, grammar,
    writing, rhetoric, and research.
  • We will also various kinds of technology to
    complete assignments, projects, and tests.

3
  • For about 50 minutes everyday, you now live in
    Huddleston Land.
  • In Huddleston Land, everyone in all of Ms.
Huddlestons classes is part of the community.
  • Approximately 150 people live in Huddleston Land.
  • Everyone is responsible for each other.

4
  • The rules in Huddleston Land are for the safety,
    courtesy, and respect of everyone.
  • If you screw up, you will cause EVERYONE in all
of Huddleston Land to lose the privilege that you
    abused.
  • I will tell everyone that it was your fault.
  • Your punishment will be public.

5
  • Everyone in Huddleston Land is expected to do
their best and help others to do their best as
    well.
  • If someone from Huddleston Land is having trouble
with something in class, help them out.
  • If you are having trouble, ask for help.
  • No one in Huddleston Land ever treats someone
else with disdain because they do not know or
    understand something.
  • Every question and opinion is respected.

6
Outside of Huddleston Land
  • A large part of your day is spent outside of
    Huddleston Land.
  • During that time you represent the rest of us.
  • We expect you to treat everyone and everything
with courtesy and respect by always following the
    Huddleston Land student creed.

7
Huddleston Land Student Creed
Part I
  • I will develop myself in a positive manner and
seek value, understanding, and tolerance in all
    things living and not.

8
Part II
  • I will develop self-discipline in order to bring
out the best in myself and others.

9
Part III
  • I will always treat other people, things, and
myself with courtesy and respect, and never be
    insulting, abusive, or destructive.
  • You will be expected to recite the student creed
as a group at the end of each class, and
individually as announced for a test grade.

10
Beginning of Class
  • We will begin each class by paying respect to our
nation, our state, our school, and our
    classmates.
  • Our class salute in no way implies worship,
allegiance, submission, or subservience to any
    nation, state, or group.
  • IT IS ONLY A SALUTE OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

11
Ending of Class
  • We will end each class by repeating the student
creed and thanking each other for being here.
  • Class is not dismissed until we are finished.
  • You may not leave just because the bell rings.

12
Our Language
  • Tis better to keep your mouth shut and be
thought a pig than to open it and oink.
  • Your language tells others what kind of person
you are and your level of intelligence.
  • No language that is insulting, offensive, or
    abusive is allowed.

13
Common Courtesy Rules
  • Raise your hand to speak, when called on, stand
    and address the entire class.
  • Address each other as sir or maam.
  • Say please, thank you, and Im sorry often (even
if you dont think its your fault.)

14
  • Only touch other people or their belongings when
you are invited to do so.
  • Respect the one arms length space rule.
  • No Food or drinks are allowed except water.

15
Outside of Class
  • Greet each other, along with anyone you meet
that you know, and shake hands.
  • Greet your teachers and principals and shake
    their hands.
  • Before you leave each class, thank your teachers
    and shake their hands.
  • Address everyone as sir or maam.

16
Phones and Things
  • When you enter the classroom, turn off all all
electronic devices phones, ipods, mp3 players,
cd players, video games, dvd players, and
anything else, and put them away and out of
    sight.
  • When you are working on an assignment
individually, you may listen to music, except
    during a test.

17
Whining Clause
  • Whining, begging, and tantrums are as pleasing as
    fingernails on a chalkboard.
  • Demonstration of any of these behaviors will
result in a 10 point deduction on your next test
    or project grade.

18
What If Clause
  • Asking a what if question will result in a 10
point deduction from your next test or project
    grade.
  • If you think about a what if question for a
minute or so, you can discover the answer for
    yourself.

19
Restroom Breaks
  • The hall pass will be hanging on the cabinet door
along with a sign out sheet.
  • If you need to leave class for whatever reason,
you must sign out on the sign out sheet AND on
    the hall pass.
  • YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ASK TO GO.
  • If you get caught in the hall with a pass that it
is not filled out, I will not claim you.

20
  • You have five minutes.
  • If you are gone longer than 5 minutes, EVERYONE
loses hall privileges for a week.
  • I will tell everyone that it was your fault.
  • You may not take the pass and leave during the
first 10 minutes of class or during the last 10
    minutes of class (10/10 rule).

21
No Written Passes Will be Accepted in the Hall
  • If your reason for leaving class is going to take
longer than 5 minutes, or if youre not sure how
long it is going to take, then you must wait and
    go during your own time.
