  • started in 1997
  • UTu/ESF/Min of Education funding in 1997-2000
  • closely linked to the strategy of Univ of Turku
  • in English

  • multi/interdisciplinary approach (humanities,
    social sciences)
  • history, culture, politics, international
    relations, human geography, environment,
    economics...
  • based on the academic expertise and interest of
    the departments in 3 faculties (and TSE)
  • coordinated by the Faculty of Humanities

    different countries and leading to a recognised
    joint degree

    development .. of integrated curricula leading to
    joint degrees
  • Perfect opening for our purposes

  • JDs are the highest or the closest form of
    cooperation in the HE
  • They can creatly advance the EHEA in quality and
    depth
  • Effect of a joint programme is greater than the
    sum of its parts
  • Based on - between two or more partners - jointly
    agreed, planned and implemented
  • Structure, Curriculum, Course design
  • Admission and grading procedure, graduation
    regulations
  • Stay of students in a partner institution with
    full recognition of credits
  • Different models and solutions to do it

    of Humanities (government decree on Master's
    programmes 14.7.2005)

  • leading to Master of Arts in Baltic Sea Region
    Studies

  • MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMME
  • given as a JOINT DEGREE (JD)
  • Based on joint curriculum planning between the
    partner universities
  • Students are admitted to one of the partner
    universities (gt home university), same admission
    requirements and application deadline
  • Each student will study one semester at a partner
    university
  • The degree is awarded by the home university,
    with a European diploma supplement
