Parent Advisory Council Mission
  • Members will give input to council that will
    impact district family involvement
  • Members will meet quarterly
  • Members will review, revise, and rewrite a
    district parent involvement plan

  • NCLB has increased options for parents
  • Research shows parent involvement is a great
    indicator of student success
  • NCLB requires teachers and other staff to be
    educated
  • on the value and contributions to parents
  • How to reach out, communicate and work with
    parents

  • When parents participate in family involvement,
    students show positive results.
  • They are more likely to enroll in higher-level
    programs and earn more credits
  • They have better social skills, behavior, and
    adapt more easily to school
  • They attend school more regularly and are more
    likely to graduate

  • The council will be informed of sections of the
    NCLB
  • laws that encompass family involvement
  • The council will become familiar with Joyce
  • Epsteins Model of Family Involvement

    involvement

School Goal, Annual Meeting,
Policy/Plan and Compact
  • Each school must have a family involvement goal
    written in the school improvement plan
  • Each school must convene an annual meeting to
    share Parents Rights to Know
  • Each school must develop and review annually a
    Policy/Plan and Compact with input from parents
    and school staff
  • The Family Involvement Survey is conducted to
    receive input and recommendations from parents

NCLB Family Involvement
Requirements
  • Provide individual assessment results and
    interpretation of results to parents
  • Ensure that information is sent home in various
    languages and offer flexible meeting times
  • Provide materials and trainings to help parents
    work with their children to improve achievement
  • Involve parents in the development, planning, and
    review of programs

  • The district supports schools in their efforts to
    carry out parent workshops, trainings and
    activities
  • The district Family Involvement Coordinator
  • provides technical assistance to Parent
    Liaisons
  • Parent Liaisons coordinate family involvement
    opportunities along with staff, parents, and the
    community
  • Schools engage parents in a series of activities,
    workshops, and trainings to successfully target
    student achievement
  • The district provides researched based trainings
    and resources for parents
