UL GAMES
  • UL GAME (UL2009) from the 17 23 august 2009,
was an international project in Odense for
    persons with social disabilities.
  • There has been around 1000 participants from 12
    different countries.
  • There were all kind of activities and ball games
doing the week and several professional experts
    participated.
  • The participants lived in tents in the UL City.

4
  • The school of Occupational Therapy in Odense had
a tent with sensory activities with different
kind of stimulation and a coffee/ garden like
    environment
  • two ball chairs too relaxing
  • stress les music
  • a rocking chair
  • dried lavender to give a calming smelling sense
  • tables outside with fruit, tea, coffee and board
    games
  • 4 sense stimulation boxes
  • lots of flowers as a frame around the tent gave a
positive effect that made it cheerful, attractive
    and good stimulation.

5
  • The purpose with the tent was to create a place
where the participants could achieve well-being,
feel satisfaction and to do different kind of
activities and just to experience oneself.
  • We wanted to achieve this by the following
activities in the tent Sense boxes, ball chairs
    (Sensit), coffee/garden environment, board games
    and talk.

6
  • The Garden environment has a calming effect on
    people.
  • It gives a possibility for rest and just to be
present with oneself and to reload.
  • The Idea is to break old patterns and bad habits
and begin to use and enjoy oneself

7
Taktil sense
  • Taktil sensing is about the outer touch of the
skin as pressure, surface structure, temperature,
pain and movements in the hair and skin.

8
Bodytouch can work as calming and relaxing. It
is the fundamental meaning for emotionalle and
social development,
The touch information we receive by being touched
and by touching objects gives us the feeling of
experience and understanding for objects in our
surroundings.
9
Limbisk
  • The limbisk system is the part of the
    nervoussystem that brings the emotional
    behaviour.
  • The basic of neurobiological is feelings and
    emotional memories as
  • Happiness
  • Fear
  • Anger
  • Sadness

10
The bassis for the feelings is to be suitable for
the situation. The limbiske system receive well
modulated impulses from the senses, and the
impulses is well modulated before it gets
received as an appropriated emotional reaction.

Anette-Louise
  • For her, the participation has been about meeting
people from other drop-in centers and look for
some of the people she encountered the year
    before.
  • Annette-Louise sees the sense integration tent as
being in heaven. It is so wonderful relaxing and
all her problems disappear. The Lavender smell
take her thoughts back to her grandmother and
    Dalai Lama.
  • She thinks it is life-affirming and motivating to
sit in the chair and she gets to think about that
    she wants to learn

Anette
  • UL Games means a lot to Annette, it has been
discussed and prepared for a long time.
  • Some of the users got really scared by the
thought of participating in something as big as
the UL Games, but after being informed about the
activities 14 of the users wanted to participate
    in the UL Games.
  • They have participated in archery, badminton,
table tennis, bowling, darts, krolf a mix of
crocket and golf, swimming, and team sports. They
have really enjoyed being at the UL Games.
  • Annette said it was amazing to be in the sense
integration tent, listening to the music and the
    smell of lavender.
  • When she was sitting in the chair listening to
the music she felt like she was taking a journey
into her soul where thoughts and feelings moves
    away from the UL.
  • She only wished she had known about the sense
integration tent from the beginning of the games
    instead of the last day
