Title: TransTools Scenario Management

1
TransTools Scenario Management
  • Thomas Israelsen
  • (ti_at_rapidis.com)

2
TransTools Model Data location
  • Home of TransTools scenario data is configurable
    by user.
  • Example C\TransToolsData
  • ALL data which needs to be exchanged between
    models MUST be located here
  • ALL data which users need to access SHOULD be
    located here
  • Execution log files SHOULD be located here
  • Programs MAY be located anywhere

3
TransTools Model Data directory structure 1
  • Within Data location exist these primary
directories for different categories of data
  • \Matrices
  • \Zones
  • \Network
  • \Logistics
  • \Logs
  • Within EACH of these directories exist one
    directory for EACH scenario. Examples
  • \TestScenario
  • \2000_00A
  • \2020_00A
  • \...
  • We do not infer any meaning from names of
    scenarios
  • Make sure to pick unique names for actual files
    within \logs\scenario\

4
TransTools Model Data directory structure 2
  • Each scenario directory contains one or more MS
    Access databases. Example
  • c\TransToolsData\Matrices\2000_00A\N2Matrices.mdb
  • c\TransToolsData\Matrices\2000_00A\N3CostMatrices
    .mdb
  • c\TransToolsData\Matrices\2000_00A\N3FreightRailC
    ostMatrix.mdb
  • c\TransToolsData\Matrices\2000_00A\N3FreightRoadC
    ostMatrix.mdb
  • c\TransToolsData\Matrices\2000_00A\N3Matrices.mdb
  • This partitioning is done in order to stay within
    2GB limit of MS ACCESS
  • Within each database are a number of tables. One
for each dataset in the model. These tables have
    FIXED names
  • Full Datamodel is available in html-documentation
from Bo Grevy. Bo Grevy should be kept informed
    of any changes.

5
Use of ArcGIS and Model Builder in TransTools
  • The execution of a TransTools model scenario in
the proper order is carried out by an ArcGIS
    Model Builder model
  • All such models (one for each scenario) are
located within an ArcGIS toolbox file in the main
    Transtools data loaction, like
  • C\TransToolsData\TransToolsScenarios.tbx

6
Creating a new scenario (subject to change)
  • In EACH of the primary directories in the
Transtools data location, copy an existing
scenario and give it an appropriate name. Like
    this
  • copy c\TT-data\matrices\2000_00A to
    c\TT-data\matrices\2020_00B
  • Using ArcGIS Model Builder copy an existing
model, rename it and set it to point to the new
    scenario-name
  • Edit the data to implement changes in scenario
  • Run the model
