• Used to be the only organization on campus geared
  towards bioengineers

IEEE EMBSEngineering in Medicine and Biology

• Virtually the exact same mission statement at
  BMES
• EMBS and BMES have joint conferences at a
  National Level
• We will be holding joint meetings of EMBS and
  BMES
• Dual Membership will also be available

EWHEngineering World Health

• Geared mainly towards bioengineers
• However, it is open to all engineers interested
  in making an impact on world healthcare
• Specifically, we design/make simple/economical
  medical devices and send them out to
  underprivileged hospitals/clinics around the world

EWHEngineering World Health

• Last year, we built over 40 defibrillator tester
  kits
• Built at end of year
• Sent them out before school ended
• This year, we have multiple projects going on, as
  well as a design competition for all of the
  active EWH Chapters.
• All BIOE students will get emails about that soon

High School Outreach

• BIOE students will be going to various high
  schools around the area to give a presentation on
  Biomedical Engineering
• The program will take effect September 20th
• Emails will be sent out soon to the BIOE
  Department

• -Bioengineering Internship Information
• -Bioengineering Alumni from UIC taking about
  their experiences in the industry or research and
  giving tips on the process of getting jobs in the
  BIOE industry
• -Other Industry Speakers
• -Research Information
• -Graduate School Information
• -Etc.

MEETINGSNEW FOR THIS YEAR

• -Industry/Lab Tours
• -Multiple Engineering World Health projects as
  well as design competitions
• -Student Outings (Dinners once a month, Sporting
  Events, Intramural Sports, etc)
• -A Student Faculty Dinner (Most likely in
  November date soon to come)
• -BMES Scholarship - will be given at the end of
  the year to the student who shows the most
  dedicated involvement in BMES

BMESSCHOLARSHIP

• Created a scholarship that is eligible to ALL
  BMES members in good standing
• Initial amount (this year) will be 500-1000
• Given at the end of the year to the BMES member
  who shows the most dedicated involvement in the
  organization(s)
• (Don't worry...board members are ineligble...)
