Whats an IDT connector?

What you need
  • You will need a length of ribbon cable of a gauge
    to match your connector.
  • A blunt heavy instrument such as a hammer makes a
good tool for closing the connector once the wire
    is inside.

Step 1
  • These IDTs come with a strain relief which if
installed will prevent the connector from being
    re-opened.
  • Since we may need to open our connectors at some
point, the strain relief may be discarded.

5
Step 2
  • Lift the retainer and insert the ribbon cable.
  • Make sure the wires are properly seated in the
    grooves of the retainer.

Step 3
  • Crimp the ribbon to the connector by pressing
down on the retainer with the hammer head (just
    press, dont hit).
  • You will hear both sides of the retainer click
into place when the connector closes.

7
Done!
  • Add as many connectors as you like to the same
    ribbon to link your devices.
  • IDT connectors come in hundreds of styles and
pin-counts so choose what best suites your
    application.
