University Library, via the SCONUL Access Scheme.
    Download a registration form from
    http//www.access.sconul.ac.uk/
  • Take this form to QM Main Library to get a Sconul
Access card, which you can then take to other
Libraries to get limited borrowing rights
  • Senate House
  • British Library

23
Inter-library loans
  • Part-time staff can make inter-library loan
requests on the same basis as full-time staff
  • Journal articles/case reports not available in
print or electronic form at QM, IALS or Senate
House, or in print form at KCL, LSE, UCL, SOAS,
    Birkbeck, BL
  • Books not available at QM, IALS or Senate House
(or through borrowing from another Library via
    Sconul Access Scheme)
  • ILLs funded directly by Law Dept.

24
Library photocopying
  • Incredibly complicated system!
  • You will need to know your QM Teaching Service
account username/password, your College ID card
Barcode PIN, and have the ID card with you.
  • Accounts can be topped up by purchasing 1 or 5
scratchcards from vending machines in the Library
then adding value by logging onto your Teaching
    Service accounts.
  • Present scratched scratchcards as receipts to
Joey Johnson in Law Dept office to get cash
    refunds.

25
EndNote
  • Software package which automatically creates
    bibliographies references.
  • Available for free on CD from Computing Services
    (W209, Queens Building Reception)
  • Can only be loaded on to QM computers
  • Web version can be accessed anywhere via Athens
    username/password at http//www.myendnoteweb.com
  • There are numerous complications in using EndNote
with various forms of legal documents/citations!
  • Oxford University have developed some software
    (OSCOLA-Lite) for formatting cases, legislation
    etc. in EndNote http//denning.law.ox.ac.uk/publi
    shed/endnote.shtml

Items from student reading lists
  • We aim to have copies of all books listed on
    undergraduate student reading lists
  • If any students complain that the Library does
not have a recommended book or that there are
insufficient copies simply e-mail me the book
    details
  • Virtually all books listed on student reading
lists will either be on one week loan or short
loan (one day loan, 1.30pm to 1.30pm the
    following day)
  • Short loan books can be booked in advance, up to
    14 days ahead

27
Staff loans
  • Staff can borrow up to 20 items from the one week
and ordinary loan categories (3 months for staff
PhDs, four weeks for taught course students),
but no more than 8 can be one week loans
  • Fines for one week loans (50p per day) and short
loans (50p per hour) apply to staff.
  • Ordinary loans are subject to recall by other
    users.
  • You can renew one week loans up to 6 times
ordinary loans up to 3 times via the Library
    catalogue at http//catalogue.library.qmul.ac.uk/
  • You will need your College ID card barcode number
PIN to renew books on the catalogue, place
    reservations etc.

28
College ID card
  • This is your Library card
  • You need to show the barcode on the card to the
card reader on the Library entrance/exit
    turnstiles to enter/leave the Library
  • On your first visit you will need to get your
Library registration record set up. Your card
will not work on the turnstiles automatically.
Show your ID card at the Library reception Desk.
They will direct you to the Issue Counter where
    your card can be activated
