6Test Item Type and Structure
- Type of test item
- Scenario Analysis
- Structure of item
- The question presents a simple star system by
showing a diagram with a central sun and two
elliptically orbiting planets. A data table is
included giving the mass in kilograms of each of
the three objects in the system. - The test-taker is asked to explain individually
how the sun and planet 2 affect the movement of
planet 1. - The second part is to identify which object has
the most effect on movement of other objects in
the system. The test-taker is asked to explain
their answer.

Standard 11 - Motion Conceptual
Strand Objects move in ways that can be
observed, described, predicted, and
measured. Guiding Questions What causes objects
to move differently under different
circumstances? Grade Level Expectation GLE
0707.11.4 Investigate how Newtons laws of motion
explain an objects movement. Checks for
Understanding Recognize how a net force impacts
an objects motion. State Performance
Indicators Identify and explain how Newtons
laws of motion relate to the movement of objects.
