Purpose
  • Support research-based early intervention
    literacy programs and professional development
  • Improve student achievement in preschool through
    grade two
  • Implement an intervention that is appropriate to
    the specific needs of the students as determined
    by the schools literacy needs and assessment
    data

Part One School Application
  • All required information on the cover sheet and
    the application page must be submitted with the
    proposal.
  • The Superintendent must sign both the cover sheet
    and the signature sheet.

Part Two Needs Assessment, Intervention Program,
and Implementation Plan
  • Provide supporting evidence including the
    schools needs assessment data, research, and
    documentation of the schools need for an early
    literacy intervention program.
  • Explain how the population to be served was
    selected based on the needs assessment.
  • Describe the key features of the intervention
    that will address the literacy needs of the
    selected population.
  • Provide evidence that the intervention is
    research based.

  • Clear evidence must be shown for the need of an
    early literacy intervention program and must come
    from two or more sources
  • Grants must contain a pre-, ongoing, and post
    assessment component
  • Selected intervention program must meet the needs
    of the population it will serve

Part Three Professional Development

    intervention program.

  • Explain how the school will monitor and evaluate

    intervention.

  • Describe the design of the school evaluation plan
    for the early literacy program.
  • Indicate the measurable evidence that will show
    the program has made a difference in student
    achievement and teacher effectiveness.

  • Multiple measures must be used to assess the
    ongoing effectiveness of the intervention
    program.
  • A valid and reliable pre- and post test must be
    given and results analyzed.

Part 6 Program Continuation
  • Tell how the intervention program will continue
    if/when Early Intervention Grant funding is no
    longer available.

Part 7 Budget
  • The proposal must include a detailed narrative
    specifying exactly how each budget area will be
    expended.
  • All materials and supplies, travel, contracted
    services, etc. must be listed on Form A with
    costs for each broken down.
  • A corporation contribution is a requirement of
    the grant.

    services must directly relate to the intervention
    being implemented.
  • On the budget, the page number must be cited next
    to each budget proposal.

Review Process
  • The award selection will be based on merit and
    quality, as determined by points awarded for
    criteria selection and all relevant information.
    Point awards and criteria selection are provided
    on pages 12 19 of the Early Intervention Grant
    Application.
