The ?rans-Siberian railway from Chelyabinsk
to Vladivostok promoted the building of
Novonikolayevsk.
Before the beginning of the
construction of a railway on the right bank of
the ?b there was a deep pinewood and a small
settlement Gusevka of Krivoshchokovskaya volost
of Tomsk uyezd.

1893 is the year of the small settlements of
workers.It is considered to be a year of the
birth of Novonikolayevsk.
The phenomenal growth is
one of its uniqueness.
Among the cities -millionaires Novosibirsk is
the quickest in population growth it reached one
million inhabitants in 19 70s.

It is the third largest city
after Moscow, St.-Petersburg. The fast growth of
the city was defined by a favourable geographical
situation. Novonikolayevsk was situated on
crossroads of the two great routs the Ob
waterway and the railway.. In 1925
Novonikolayevsk was renamed Novosibirsk.

1941. The beginning of the Great Patriotic war
brought large changes to the life of the city.
Many factories,
institutes, creative collectives were evacuated.

The
specialists,equipment of more than 50 factories
arrived during the first months of the war in
Novosibirsk.
26 hospitals
were transported to the city.

In the unfinished building of the theatre of
opera and ballet ,the exhibits of theTretyakov
picture gallery, of Ermitage, museums of Moscow,
Leningrad, Novgorod, Sevastopol and other cities
were placed . The industry of Novosibirsk
developed 8 times quicker.

The echelons with military equipment and
ammunition were directed to the front line.
