3What is Micah Challenge?
gtgt A new movement to galvanise Christians to
uphold our covenant with the poor
gtgt Calling for the fulfilment of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) - to halve poverty by
2015
gtgt Participating in a global movement including
poor as well as rich countries.
4What is Blow the Whistle?
gtgt A global Micah Challenge campaign to mark the
half-way point to delivering the MDGs in
2015 gtgt Put the spotlight on the Government and
scrutinize the half time scores gtgt Encouraging
global, national and G8 leaders to honour the
promises they made to the worlds
poorest gtgt Includes postcard action, letter
writing, meeting with Government leaders,
praying, rallying and becoming informed on the
issues

6The MDGs How are we doing?
gtgt Progress has been made in some areas, but
many of the MDGs remain desperately off track
and in some cases we are actually going backwards
gtgt Goal 6 Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other
diseases gtgt Target Have halted by 2015 and
begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS gtgt
Progress Prevention efforts are proving
successful in some areas, but deaths and new
infections continue to increase today 40
million people are living with HIV
7What are we asking the Government for?
1. HIV and AIDS HIV prevention, treatment and
care for all by 2010 2. Water and Sanitation G8
to agree a Global Action Plan on water and
sanitation
3. Stop Climate Chaos Annual target of reducing
domestic carbon emissions by at least
3 4. Trade Justice Ensure regional trade
agreements help bring about trade
justice 5. Inclusive Education Inclusion of
disabled children within national education plans
