Year 7 tutor evening
2
Welcome
  • STAFF NAME
  • As your childs tutor, I am going to run through
a few issues that effect year 7 students at the
Causeway in the hope that it can help you to give
your child the very best chance at succeeding.
  • If you have any questions, please stop me at any
time and Ill do my best to answer.

3
Attendance
  • Attendance is a major focus of the school
improvement plan. Pastoral Assistants (Mrs C
Dolan) employed to manage attendance for each
    year group.
  • Absence should ONLY be taken when your child is
unwell or has to visit doctors, dentist, etc.
Any other reason will not be authorised by the
school in accordance with UK law.

4
Attendance
  • If you child is sick, please contact the School
at the earliest opportunity and leave a message
with Christine Dolan who can amend the registers
    accordingly. 01323 465726
  • 100 percent attendance is the aim and all
students with 100 percent attendance will be
rewarded at the end of the year. Please try to
encourage attendance, even if feeling a little
    under the weather.
  • If your child is away for an appointment, please
try to get them back into school for the rest of
the day, or take them out then their appointment
    is due.

5
Bullying
  • Bullying is a second focus of the school
    improvement plan.
  • What is Bullying?
  • Persistent and calculated physical or verbal
    abuse.
  • One-off name calling is not bulling
  • A fight is not bullying
  • Friendship fall-outs are not bullying
  • These are incidences and are dealt with
appropriately, however we urge parents to view
    these differently as bullying.
  • The causeway school takes bullying very seriously
and will deal with bullying when it arises.

6
What can you do as parents?
  • Bullying
  • Urge your child to tell their tutor
  • Contact the school yourself.
  • Record all examples of the bullying (time and
    location)
  • Dont Panic be calm.
  • Dont take matters into your own hands.
  • Give the school time to deal with it.
  • Incidences
  • Talk to your child. Is it a one off or is it
    continuous?
  • Can they ignore it?
  • Is it part of growing up and changing?
  • If they cant ignore it, report it to their tutor.
  • Remember there are two sides to every story and
    not all children are angels!

7
Changing Friendship circles
  • As students grow up they will change friends.
  • Many will keep the old whilst making new friends
    and creating new circles.
  • This happens every year.
  • Please support your child through this and
    explain this to them.
  • It is not bullying its part of growing up.

8
Homework
  • Homework has had a major push as a result of
  • parental consultation on homework. Parents
  • wanted more effective homework set.
  • In order to achieve consistency, we have had to
address the guidelines for staff collecting it
in. A Homework failure is now an automatic C3.
  • Parental support with this is essential.
  • It is sometimes may seem unfair, but learning to
take responsibility for their learning is also a
    major focus of this.

9
How can you help?
  • Check your childs planner as often as possible
  • Insist they do Homework right away
  • Provide a space for them to concentrate and work
to the best of their ability
  • Allow them internet access
  • Ask them if they have tried their best
  • Ask to read it through with them.
  • Remind them each morning as they leave for
    school.
  • Constantly reinforce the importance of homework
    and learning.

10
Spain trip
  • Friday 6th Friday 13th June 2008
  • Students will travel by Coach to Llorett de Mar
and spend a week learning Spanish and visiting
    local places of interest
  • Nou Camp Stadium
  • Dali museum
  • Tossa de Mar
  • Science Museum
  • We are looking to take as many students as
possible this year, so make sure you return your
form to Miss Doyle at the earliest opportunity
and come to the meeting scheduled later this year.
