3
Why School Self-Assessment?
  • To identify areas for improvement
  • To improve the teaching-learning process
  • To improve the organizational processes of the
    school
  • To involve all concerned in the process
  • To enhance human relations while working on a
    common goal
  • To constantly strive for excellence

4
Why use the EFQM Excellence Model?
  • It is a comprehensive, systematic and regular
review by an organization of its activities and
results, referenced against a model of excellence
  • It provides a well articulated framework for
identifying areas for improvement and setting up
an improvement plan with specific short and
    long-range targets

5
Why use the EFQM Excellence Model?
  • The EFQM Excellence Model is not based on a
    top-down approach
  • It is based on the concept that everyone is
working together to identify strengths and
weaknesses and to implement the necessary
    improvement plans
  • Everyone is co-responsible for the well-being of
    the organization

13
Challenges of using the EFQM Excellence Model
  • The EFQM Model had to be adapted to suit school
  • needs without changing its basic structure
  • The EFQM questionnaire had to be translated into
  • Greek and the language adapted for use
  • by schools, e.g. customer, management
  • The questionnaire had to be adapted to reflect
    the
  • particular needs and structure of the College

14
Advantages of using the EFQMExcellence Model
  • The faculty is involved in reflecting on and
    resolving problems that concern them
  • The decision and responsibility taken on by the
faculties of each school to implement change
brings a new dynamic process to the school
  • The EFQM Excellence Model is the means for
    initiating a school-wide self-assessment process
    in our school

15
  • Success will truly be realized when this
    process becomes internalized as
  • a natural way of doing things
