Plan

• Targeted survey
• Follow philosophy of MALT pilot study
• Observe range of targets in variety of lines
• Investigate detection rates, typical line
  strengths and sizes of a range of molecular
  species towards various finder charts of high
  mass star forming cores.
• Same targets as MALT90 pilot
• Complement, compare and contrast with results of
  MALT90 pilot

Why 45 GHz?

• Different species and transitions to 90GHz range
• Complementary to 90GHz band
• For example SiO, CS, CH3OH
• Perhaps 'better' tracers for some stages in
  evolution
• Wider tolerance to weather conditions
• Better use of telescope time

Demonstration projectAn unbiased survey for
Class I CH3OH masers

• Mopra October 2008
• Mopra survey of 1 sq. deg for 44 GHz Class I
  methanol maser
• Serendipitous first unbiased survey of CS 1-0 as
  a probe of dense gas in the Galactic plane
• 1 hour to map 10'x10' region
• Good observing in October and January
