Global Data Synchronisation is
  • About integrating retailer and manufacturer
    processes, where relevant and beneficial
  • Supporting collaborative activity

Global Standards Common Processes

4
The long term target benefit
  • ZERO COST for data correction
  • ZERO COST for duplicative data input
  • ZERO DEFECT Processes
  • Consumer Driven Manufacturing bringing efficiency
    to the supply chain

5
And what is the scale of the challenge?
6
For retailers working across Europe...

150,000 Suppliers150,000 Catalogues 150,000
Formats
7 million products analysed 40,000 Suppliers and
1.5 million products on file
  • 25 minutes / year / SKU /- 5 of human errors
4 weeks to roll-in new item

30 modifications / month70-80 price or
promotion
7
And for manufacturers...
  • General master data problems
  • 30 billion - or 3.4 of sales - is lost each
year due to supply chain information
    inefficiencies
  • On an industry wide basis, 30 of transactions
    contain inaccurate data
  • With PO/Invoice matching alone, the size of the
    problem is enormous
  • Cases of 60 invoices with errors
  • Up to 35 deduction rate in some markets

Lets start with a glossary...
  • Master Data
  • Data Pool
  • Alignment
  • Synchronisation
  • Any data applicable across multiple business
    transactions.
  • Master Data can be Neutral - constant across all
trading partners - or Relationship Dependent,
    specific to a trading partner.

Lets start with a glossary...
  • Master Data
  • Data Pool
  • Alignment
  • Synchronisation
  • Any certified, standards compliant content
    provider.
  • Includes
  • EAN Catalogues
  • Exchanges
  • Content Providers
  • Extranets...

Lets start with a glossary...
  • Master Data
  • Data Pool
  • Alignment
  • Synchronisation
  • Bringing commonality to data between trading
    partners based on agreed standards

  • Data Pool
  • Alignment
  • Synchronisation
  • The process of continuous harmonisation of
information between trading partners within the
supply chain using common data standards.

Elements of the GDS Vision
3. The registry holds this basic information
about all items and the location of each items
home data pool.
Registry
Manufacturer
4. A retailer will search the registry, via a
selected data pool, for an item (by GTIN or by
description). The registry returns the details of
the items Home Data Pool.
2. The data pool sends very basic information
about the item to the Registry
DataPool
1. A manufacturer will publish item information
to the items home data pool.
DataPool
5. The trading partners synchronise the item
information between their respective data pools
using subscription/publication process.
Retailer
  • This model supports a rich network of data pools
and entry points that may be manufacturer based,
retailer based or both. The data pools and entry
points can provide individual additional services.

Global Data Synchronisation Scope
17
GDS ScopeStandards
  • Global Data Synchronisation feeds into, and
exists inside, the EANUCC Global Standards
    Environment

18
GDS ScopeStandards
Each item (consumer and traded) is identified by
a GTIN and is registered.
GTIN 3700123300380
19
GDS ScopeStandards
Each party or location is identified by a GLN and
is registered.
20
GDS ScopeGlobal Data Dictionary
  • Common definitions for Master Data
  • Neutral or relationship dependent
  • Builds the foundation for data pools compliance
to the global EAN/UCC coding system
  • Promotes and strengthens use of the unique
identifiers for product (GTIN) and party (GLN)

21
GDS ScopeProduct Classification
  • A context to group products into blocks to
    support business processes
  • Searching logical and flexible product categories
  • Custom category analysis
  • Simplification and efficiency of data
    synchronisation
  • Consists of attributes and values associated
    to product blocks
  • A sub-set of the Global Data Dictionary

GDS ScopeGlobal Registry
  • Federates Data Pools
  • Ensures uniqueness of items and parties in the
    GDS Network
  • Points to the data pool where master data is
    originally stored
  • Enables basic search function
  • Is not a Global Switch

28
GDS ScopeData Pool
  • Primary player in the data synchronisation
    process
  • Repository of items and parties published
  • Enables data publication and subscription
  • Enables Global Search

29
GDS ScopeCertification
  • Ensures that Technical Requirements and Global
Standards for Data Synchronisation are correctly
    implemented throughout the Global Data
    Synchronisation Network.

30
GDS ScopeIndustry Governance
  • Governance is the management ofindustry
compliance to the Global Data Synchronisation
    process.
  • It is based on rules, which permit
synchronisation to operate consistently on a
day-to-day basis without constant reference to a
    committee.
