- A collaboration between a 2-Year and a 4-Year
College that - improves the college science education of future
K-12 teachers. - streamlines student transfer between

faculty.

4New Curriculum in Science Education
- Science Methods Course adds a field component
with students as docents at local science
facilities. - Biology Course teaches topics adaptable across
grade levels. - Students study web-based modules and communicate
results to instructors by email.
5Faculty Collaborate on Web Technology across
Institutions
- Four science and education faculty trained in web
design per year. - Websites and exercises available on-line.
- Web design and new course enhancements to
continue after the granting period.
6Web-Enhanced Advisement Facilitates Student
Transfers
- Students see all relevant transfer information
on-line, at any time.
7Articulation Agreement Established
- Students get full credit for education and
science courses taken at the 2-year college as
they transfer to the 4-year college.
8Students Use On-line Science Modules
- Education, Biology, and Chemistry modules are
currently available. - Mathematics modules are in preparation during
this final year. - Modules are developed in courses specifically
taken by education majors at Kingsborough
Community College the 2-year institution.
9Some Project Outcomes
- The elementary education major, traditionally
weak in and/or frightened of science, becomes
familiar with and comes to enjoy science
qualities that can be passed on to their own
students. - Science majors come to consider science teaching
as a potential plan B for their careers.
10After NSF Funding
- The project continues after NSF funding ends
- Articulations are in place.
- Curricula are revised with utilization by all
education courses. - New Web-enhancements of existing traditional
courses continues. - Web-enhancement updating and maintenance
continues.

Science and prepare to be Docents at
The NY Aquarium.
12Crossing Boundaries Students learn Botany
and prepare to be docents at The
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
13Crossing Boundaries Students learn Ecology
and Prepare to be docents at the
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in
Brooklyn, New York.
