ESL Basics

• Core curricular area, NOT a supplemental service
• No other program services can replace ESL
• Examples Speech therapy, remedial reading,
  tutoring, drama, and support services
• NOT THE SAME as teaching ESL

• ESL class DOES count the same as an English or
  Language Arts credit
• Students in ESL classes do not need an English
  class
• ELLs can be in both classes (with accommodations
  in the English class)
