Dr. Ina Reichel
  • Michelle Cellini, Rachael Wilson-McCall,
  • Chase Cary, Bridget Maley

2
Roles for Group
  • Bridget - PowerPoint
  • Michelle- Spokesperson
  • Chase- Correspondent
  • Rachael- Background Information

3
Background Information
  • Accelerator Physicist from Germany
  • Universities of Mainz and Aachen in Germany
  • Works at Berkley Lab
  • Research work for diploma and PhD theses was
completed at CERN working on a Large Electron
    Positron Collider
  • Worked on the commissioning of the PEP-II
    B-Factory
  • Senior Engineering Associate at Lawrence Berkeley
    National Lab, (April 2002-present)

4
Education
  • She attended Gesamtschule Oberre Aar, and then
    Johannes Gutenberg-Universtat Mainz (19989-1994).
    Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule
Aachen (Aachen University) working for her
Diplom-Physikerin, which can be compared to a
Bachelor or Masters Degree in Physics
    (1994-1995).
  • She attended Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische
Hochschule Aachen from 1994-1998, studying and
receiving her degree as a Doctor of Science,
    specifically in physics.

5
Life Now
  • Currently living in California
  • Working in the Collider Physics Group in the
    Center for Beam Physics
  • ( which is part of the Accelerator and Fusion
Research Division. She is currently working on an
    anti-proton beamline at Fermilab.)
  • Works on beam dynamic problems for different
    accelerators
  • Including AP2 anti-proton beamline at Fermilab

6
Aspects of Work
  • International linear collider a
electron-positron smasher, will give physicists a
new way to explore energy regimes beyond the
    reach of today's accelerators
  • Damping Rings- special types of particle
    accelerators
  • Shes working in the Collider Physics Group in
the Center for Beam Physics , which is part of
the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division. She
is currently working on an anti-proton beamline
    at Fermilab.

7
She researched for diploma and PhD theses at
CERN studying the LEP (Large Electron Positron
Collider). After she was a PostDoc at SLAC
(Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) she started
working on commissioning and the running of
PEP-II.
  • Picture of CAD model
  • Provides information on technical systems
development (i.e. vacuum)and beam dynamics studies

Berkeley Lab
  • Lawrence Berkeley National Lab is a leader in
science and production research for more than 75
years. The Lab conducts a wide range of
scientific research with key efforts in
fundamental studies of the universe, quantitative
biology, nanoscience, new energy systems and
environmental solutions, and the use of computing
    as a tool for discovery.

9
Berkeley Lab Cont.
  • Located on a 200 acre site in the hills above the
    University of California's Berkeley campus,
adjacent to the San Francisco Bay, Berkeley Lab
holds the distinction of being the oldest of the
    U.S. Department of Energy's National
    Laboratories. Eleven Nobel laureates are
associated with Berkeley Lab. It is managed by
    the University of California.
