Title: HDPE vs' PVC

1
HDPE vs. PVC pipe sizes

10"
10"
HDPE is commonly used when relocating water line
across an environmentally sensitive area by
directional bore.
Due to wall thickness, the inside diameter of
HDPE pipe is less than the inside diameter of the
same size PVC pipe. So then, a 10 HDPE cannot
carry the same flow as a 10 PVC pipe. This
should be caught at the design level but if not,
then a plan change will likely be necessary.
Testing should be performed prior to paying for
directionally bored waterline. If the testing
fails, it is unlikely the leak will be located,
thus rendering the entire installation of no
value.
