General info- Iceland -

• Size ca. 103.000 square kilometers
• Population 314.000
• 75 situated in the vicinity of the capital area
• Ca. 115.000 addresses registered at the LRI
• Ca. 88.000 located
• Represents around 95 of sensible addresses
• Other addresses are of land and lots without
  structures or utilities

Changes since Torshavn- awakening of the address
issue -

• The need of address data has increased measurably
  in diverse ways
• We see it through amount of requests for address
  data
• (Fjarskiptasjóður, Mailing companies,
  Meteorological office, University of Iceland,
  Municipalities, Private companies, Pension funds,
  Telephone companies)
• Meeting discussing the concept of addresses
• Closed meeting between main stakeholders
• 2x open meetings in Reykjavík and Akureyri

Changes since Torshavn- LRI now possessing main
spatial address repository -

• LRI has united the two largest address location
  repositories in Iceland, from Loftmyndir and
  Samsýn
• Now there is only one party collecting location
  of addresses
• In process of overhauling and comparing the two
  datasets

The two databases are very much alike
but differences exist

Changes since Torshavn- address data as a
product -

• Before
• addresses were an attribute of other data stores,
  like real properties or public registry
• Now
• Addresses have been separated as a stand alone
  product
• Address information, including textual and
  spatial information can now be bought according
  to accepted pricing schema
• But
• The Land Registry has to recover costs through
  sale of data

• Scoping and defining the geo-address project
• Cooperation between many organizations
• Land Registry of Iceland
• Public Registry (folkeregister)
• Statistics Iceland (Hagstofan)
• Association of Local Authorities in Iceland

• Continuing of locating old addresses in Iceland
  in cooperation with private companies
• Comparison of the two address repositories and
  create one
• Establishing a system where as municipalities
  locate new addresses with coordinates
  simultaneously as they register them in the Land
  Registry database

Future

• Create one database which withholds all
  geo-addresses in Iceland and to make addresses
  unambiguous
• Defining responsibility and roles of different
  registrations
• Altering laws and regulations
• Solving mismatches of registration between
  municipalities
