Our Forest Wealth

• One of the great natural resources is our forest
  wealth. The area under our forests is much less
  than we need. Steps are being taken to increase
  our forests.
• Five types of forests are found in India -
• Coniferous Forests Our hills and mountains have
  the trees with conical leaves. This kind of
  forests are called coniferous forests.
• Deciduous Forests These forests cover a large
  part of the country right from the sub-Himalayan
  region to the cape.
• Evergreen Forests These forests are found in
  the eastern hills of the Himalayas and on the
  Western Ghats.
• Arid Forests They are found in the sands of the
  Indian Desert. They have thorny trees like
  keeker, cactus and prickly pear etc.
• Tidal Forests They are found in the delta of
  the Ganga. These forests are also known as Sunder
  Van as they have a tree known as the Sundri tree.
