• ICT sector is important for the EU economy
• Equivalent to 4 of EU GDP in the early 90s
  to around 8 in 2000 consistently growing
  faster than the rest of the economy
• ICT key enabler for productivity growth
• ICT sector is on the most innovative sector (18
  of RD expenditure) and one of the most
  productive
• ICT intensive industries have experienced higher
  productivity gains
• Overall ICT contributed to 40 of EU labour
  productivity gains in the second half of the 1990s
