CEOP and the VGT
  • The Child Exploitation and Online Protection
    Centre (CEOP) was set up in April 2006 to protect
    children from online sexual exploitation

  • CEOPs Report Abuse button has received over
    5,600 reports in 2008-09 (54 was from under 18s)
  • Approx 100 per month from CYP
  • 30-45 boys
  • 55-70 girls
  • CEOP works as part of the Virtual Global
    Taskforce (VGT) and is made up of law enforcement
    agencies from around the world such as Australia,
    Canada, Italy and America.
  • This means any reports of abuse made can be
    answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week worldwide.

  • SN Sites are the 2nd biggest area where CEOP
    receives abuse reports (16 of all reports)
  • 70 of children aged 9 -19 use Social Networking
    sites
  • 27 of 8 to 11-year-olds claim to have a profile
    page on a social networking
  • Currently 41 of children using Social Networking
    sites have their profiles open to anyone
