Immigration Notes
  • Assimilation- the process of fitting in to a new
    culture or becoming like others in that culture.
  • Emigration- the act of leaving a country to
    settle elsewhere.
  • Ethnicity- Common group of characteristics based
    on race, nationality and religion. (what country
    you originate from_
  • Green Card- a work permit given to immigrants
    who have not yet become citizens.
  • Illegal Immigrant- refers to any immigrant who
    does not come to the U.S. following the proper
    legal procedure.
  • Immigration- the act of entering a country to
    live there.
  • Refugee- a person who flees from a country to
    escape danger.
  • Visa- a legal permit to enter the country
