18Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007
- Authorised Registrations numbers for the past 18
months are the following -
19Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
- Mutual Recognition (Lack of) with NSW Board of
Surveying and Spatial Information - NSW is the only other jurisdiction in Australia
that has a legal requirement that Mine Surveyors
must have a Certificate of Competency to be a
Registered Mining Surveyor. - NSW Registration is based on
- 3 year Award or better Now talking about 4 year
award. - Surveys and Plans Project
- b) SB2 Mining Law (written assessment, minimum 2
hours) - Oral Assessment.
- 15 points of CPD per year
- WA Authorisation Based on
- 3 year Advanced Diploma or WASM Associate Degree
- Necessary Open Pit or Underground Experience
- Letter of competency from suitable supervisor.
20Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
- Problem
- NSW Mining is predominantly coal mining and
registration is based on this area. - WA mining is predominantly hard rock mining
- Mining Law (NSW) Exam
- The candidate will be required to demonstrate a
first hand knowledge of the following - Survey and Drafting Directions for Mine
Surveyors. - Survey and Drafting Directions for Mining
Surveyors - Relevant Acts and Regulations for applications
for Leases and Licenses. - Relevant Acts and Regulations and other relevant
documentation as it applies to the mining
surveyor.
21Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
- NSW BOSSI
- The Board is committed to the maintenance of
reciprocity between the various jurisdictions in
Australia. - If an accredited surveyor from another
jurisdiction applies to practise in New South
Wales the Board will register that person - a) in accordance with the provisions of the
Mutual Recognition Act, 1993 - b) irrespective of any deficiency in CPD points
held at that time. - However WA Authorised Surveyors have had problems
22Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
23Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
- WA Board View
- a) WA Authorisation under the Mutual
Recognition Act should be recognised. - b) BOSSI are quite within their rights to
impose conditions on a WA applicant - - Certification limited to hard rock
mining only. - c) Consistent legislation across Australia a
good Idea, but difficult to enact. -
24Mines Survey Board Report 2006 to 2007 - Issues
- Mines Survey Board has also been looking at
future possible means of assessing candidates to
ensure they have the relevant qualifications or
experience - a) Project presented to demonstrate mine
surveying work. - Board provides criteria of experience to be met
by applicants MSB to ensure all are met by
applicant via logbook - Pier review of project/work at workplace.
- Problem resources required in terms of time
and money.
25- General Register of Surveyors.
- Includes an Endorsements (surveying
specialisations) in mining. - Mining Surveyors are competent in the measurement
and mapping of mine workings and exploration. - There are two endorsements for Mine Surveyors
- a) Mining A for all mines.
- b) Mining O for open-cut mines only.
- There appears to be no Legal requirement in
Queensland that a person be endorsed mine
surveyor. - Continued endorsement requirement is 15 CPD
points per year.
