Mars the red planet

• Mars was named after the roman god of war because
  of its blood red colour.
• The planet looks rusty red because its surface is
  covered with iron-rich soil and rock.

MARS FACTS.

• Mars is 228 million km from the sun .
• Its diameter is 6796 km.
• It is about half the size of Earth .
• Mars looks really hot but is actually really
  cold.

• Mars has two moons, they are called Deimos and
  Phobos.
• They are odd shapes.
• They are smaller than most towns.

Mars like Earth

• Mars is more like Earth than any other planet.
• It has volcanoes, ice caps, weather seasons and
  clouds.

Mars landing

• The first landing on mars was a probe called
  Viking 1
• Since then many probes have been sent to mars and
  two rovers.
• These collect data and sent photos back to Earth.
