• The following pages reflect a SAMPLE report used
  by Commercial Industry Company 3 to track the
  retirement of legacy systems. Most retirements
  are a result of implementing integrated systems.

Legacy System Retirement

• Review all systems on a regular basis
  particularly prior to planning and embarking on a
  new acquisition
• All expenditures to legacy systems should be
  approved by upper management (CIO)
• Using outside sources to maintain legacy systems
  makes it easier to control
• Capture costs of maintaining and enhancing each
  system
• Use costs to help drive and prioritize systems to
  shutdown
• Secure management support to assure you do not
  continue to invest in systems that are planned to
  be shut down.

  integrated
• Some legacy systems may need to stay up during a
  phased implementation
• Plan and monitor legacy system retirement
• Report on status and progress on a regular basis
