LAUSD Safety Tips

• Proper eye-care safety practices
• Proper handling of glassware and glass tubing
• Proper setup and handling of electrical equipment
• Safe use of chemicals in the laboratory

Read the instructions

• Make sure to read the instructions at least twice
  before beginning the lab experiment!
• Make sure to read the instructions at least twice

Get only the materials listed

• Never drink anything that we use in the lab.
• Never get more material than you need to conduct
  experiment.

Follow the instructions one step at a time

• Make sure you measure everything in appropriate
  units (ml, cm, C, etc..)
• If you do not understand how to do something, ask
  the teacher for help

If you make a mistake stop and ask for help

• Let the teacher know immediately about spills,
  broken glass, cuts, and burns.
• It depends on how much time is left in class if
  you want to redo the lab.
• Make-ups will have to be completed during the
  next lab session

Clean your area thoroughly

• Before you leave make sure to put all of your
  materials away.
• Make sure to clean the lab bench.
• Dispose of materials appropriately.
• Never pour any of the chemicals down the sink.
