Title: Hiroshige

1
  • Hiroshige
  • Japanese Artist 18th Century
  • Used Foreground, Background and Middle ground
    areas really well

2
  • This is a detail of one of his paintings called
    The Plum Grove
  • Look at the use of
  • 1) Complimentary colours,
  • 2) Overlapping, 3)Perspective and
  • 4) Aerial perspective

3
  • The sky is much darker at the top and lighter as
    it reaches the horizon.
  • This gives the whole picture a sense of space
    and distance.
  • The Dutch Artist, Vincent Van Gogh liked this
work so much that he copied it in his own style

4
  • Van Goghs version

5
Look at the use of overlapping here Brilliant!
Its as though we are looking through the flowers
onto the scene in the background, and look at how
simply , but how effectively he has conveyed the
colours in the landscape, about 9 horizontal
stripes across the whole surface, with the detail
on top
6
  • Hes looking through a wheel with this one

7
  • A contemporary (around at the same time) artist
called Hokusai used a very similar style and was
just as inventive when composing pictures. Here
are some of his 36 views of Mount Fuji
