2005

• Indianapolis residents used 225 million gallons
  of water a day, according the to the Indpls Dept.
  of Public Works
• By 2020, the projected need will be 380 million
  gallons a day
• This includes water used for drinking, washing,
  lawn watering, and industrial uses

PRESENT SITUATION

• 75 of our water comes from the White River
  Watershed, but it is not an unlimited source.
• This source is also susceptible to pollution, as
  a fish kill several years ago indicated
• It is also possible we could experience a drought
  and need a new water source

PROPOSAL

• Former City Council member has proposed a 60-mile
  pipeline which could bring 90 million gallons of
  water a day from Lake Monroe near Bloomington to
  Indy
• What ramifications would this have for Lake
  Monroe and the surrounding area?

PLANNING

• Today, we need to
• 1) Protect existing water sources from
  contamination and sedimentation
• 2) Promote water conservation
• 3) Plan for a day when our demand exceeds our
  supply
