compositions of research teams at both
predominantly undergraduate and PhD granting
institutions has remained essentially the same a
mixture of undergraduate graduate students and
postdoctoral other research associates. One
category of research team member that has been
largely missing is the large pool of pre-college
science teachers. This symposium will focus on
issues related to the improved integration of
this non-traditional workforce into the national
research enterprise, including teacher
preparation for research, integration of
teacher/researchers into graduate programs,
funding opportunities, conceptual institutional
barriers to their research integration, and
examples of successful teacher/researcher
integrations efforts.
