  • Hopi people have endured as a nation.
  • Centuries of outside forces determine the change
  • The Hopi had been settled for centuries when the
    Spanish soldiers invaded their territory in 1540.
  • Successfully driving the Spanish out of pueblo
    territory for twelve years.

Resources/Environment
  • Dry, hot, sandy, desert.
  • Few trees.
  • Little water.

Homes/Shelter
  • Families work together to build a pueblo.
  • The pueblos didnt have any doors or windows
  • The only way out was climbing in and out from a
    ladder

Food
  • Plants grew far apart from each other because to
    make sure each plant gets the same amount of
    water
  • They plant there corn at the low land at the
    bottom of the mesa
  • In the fall the Hopi would pick there corn.
  • They ate beans, squash and other crops.

  • Their art used symbols and sings to represent
    their ideas.
  • They would dress in flowers and paint with
    feather headdresses.
  • The Southwest Indians were the most skilled in
    making baskets.

    were born.
