What does IB Programme do?

• Promotes education of the whole person
• Emphasizes intellectual, personal, emotional, and
  social growth
• Involves learning languages, humanities,
  sciences, mathematics, and the arts
• Provides individual/collaborative research
• Includes community service.

• 1,595 schools authorized to teach the IB format
  in 121 countries.
• In Virginia
• 9 Middle Schools with Middle Years format
• Alexandria, Woodbridge, Reston, Manassas,
  Richmond, Henrico, Roanoke, Danville, and
  Virginia Beach
• Hampton and York County Schools are looking into
  Middle Years Programme

Proposal for 2006-2007

• Implement the MYP with entire 6th grade beginning
  fall, 2006.
• Serve 340 students from current feeder schools,
  including Dutrow.
• 60 additional spaces are available in Grade 6
  determined by lottery/application
• Implement IB in one core 7th and 8th grade
  classes.
