Teacher Assessment
  • As well as the tests being carried out, Miss
Taylor has been assessing the following
    throughout the year.
  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Teacher assessment judges your child's
performance across the whole subject over time.
  • These assessments are reported alongside the test
    results.
  • Teacher assessment is based on descriptions of
what a child should achieve at each level.
  • Children are given a level that best fits their
    level of achievement
  • Tests and teacher assessment are equally
    important

5
Ways to help your child
  • A child does not fail their SATS test
  • Reassure your child and give them confidence
about their ability and that they just have to
try their best on the day
  • Let your child live their lives as normal during
    test week
  • Support your child by looking through the
    revision guidance
  • Check out BBC Revisewise Website or SPARK ISLAND
    together
  • Please do not keep your child off school
unnecessarily phone us and talk to us.- Please
tell us if anything has happened at home that
    could upset them.
  • Encourage your child to spend 10-20 minutes a day
on revision or practice over the next few weeks
  • Remind your child that in most parts of the SAT
papers, they will not have to write in sentences
often, phrases or even single words will be
enough . There are sometimes a variety of tick
    boxes
  • Make sure your child has breakfast every day,
especially during the week of the tests -
children who miss breakfast perform worse later
    in the morning
  • Please make sure your child has some early nights
that week a stress free week!

6
Are the tests stressful for the children?
  • The tests only cover what children have been
    learning at school.
  • Everybody involved in the tests take care to make
sure that they are not stressful and are as fair
    as possible to all children.
  • We provide a supportive environment that aims to
prepare the pupils and for them not to spend time
    worrying about the tests.
  • Our aim is simple for the pupils to try their
    best!

7
Ways we will be helping your child
  • Questions from previous papers are practised,
advice on how to read and answer questions, and
managing their time during the tests. Nearer the
time, the children are given the set timetable
for the week of the tests.
  • Finding the right place for your child to carry
    out the tests
  • Providing readers for Maths and Science papers
reminding the children to use the readers
    available
  • Appropriate learning breaks between the tests
  • Providing water bottles during the test
  • A mental warm up before the Maths test
  • Providing a treat after the tests!
  • Reminding the children to use the revision
    guidance booklets information previously given
    to the children.

8
What do the levels mean? The levels are a method
of comparing your childs ability against
national standards of achievement. It is expected
that it takes two years to complete each level.
9
What happens to the tests?
  • After each test, the papers are packed and sealed
and sent by courier to be marked.
  • Markers have been trained and their marking will
have gone through a quality control check.
  • The tests are due back in School the first week
    of July.
  • The returned papers have to be checked for errors
and all data loaded onto our tracking systems
which generates a report which you will receive
    at the end of term.
  • The report shows both the test result and the
teacher assessment. Both carry equal weighting.
