  • accept the markets needs as well-defined and
    push the technology to meet those needs OR
  • accept the technologys current capabilities and
    then seek a market that will value the inherent
    attributes of that technology.
  • Winning firms choose the latter route.

  • Customer input can be very misleading in an
    emerging market. Traditional methods of market
    research typically wont yield true market needs.

  • The Kittyhawk team defined the customer
    requirements early and froze them. However, in an
    emerging market, it takes time for customers to
    understand how they might use the new technology.
  • As a result, payback can take a while.

  • The Business Case for this project was ambitious
    - 100m revenue in 2 years.
  • - Without these ambitious targets, the project
    would never have been funded. Yet, with these
    ambitious targets, it was difficult for the
    project to succeed.
