• We started out our day by greeting the flag.
• Hello, Dear Flag.

• After greeting the flag, we had to carry wood
  into the school for the cook stove.

• The boys and girls had to sit on opposite sides
  of the room. We received historic names for the
  day.

• We had to learn the proper way to sit at our desk
  and stand when called on for an answer.

• Before we started our day there was a health
  inspection. Unfortunately some of the girls got
  caught with barn paint on their nails!

• One student had a cough so Professor Desch had to
  cut her finger to bleed the bad blood out

• Another student had a bad tooth ache so Professor
  Desch explained how he would pull the tooth.

• Several of the students were asked to stand and
  recite passages from their McGuffey readers.

• As we looked at the pictures on the wall we
  learned about the history of our country.

• During math the professor gave us problems to
  work out on our slates.

• We learned that pioneer children brought their
  lunches from home in a variety of containers.
  Some even heated theirs up on top of the cook
  stove.

• After lunch the pioneer children would play games
  at recess. Only the lucky ones got to play ball.
  They had to be careful because the ball was
  easily broken . It was a hairball from a cow.

• We ended our day by practicing our handwriting
  with a quill pen and ink.

• We enjoyed our trip into the past and learned a
  lot about life in a one-room school.
