Living without safe water
  • Almost 1 billion people live without access to
    safe water
  • 5000 children die from water-related diseases
    every day
  • After acute respiratory infections,
water-related diseases are the second biggest
    killer of children worldwide,.

Our mission
  • To overcome poverty by working with people in
some of the worlds poorest countries to provide
safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

Where we work

What we do
  • WaterAid directly funds local partner
organisations to carry out water, sanitation and
    hygiene education work.
  • WaterAid works in long-term partnerships to help
improve the capacity of major donors and
governments to deliver more sustainable and
    equitable water and sanitation services.
  • WaterAid and its partners work with others to
influence and change donor and government
policies to favour pro-poor, sustainable and cost
    effective water and sanitation services.

6
History of WaterAid
  • Established 1981 through fundraising by water
    industry employees
  • 1980s formation of regional WaterAid fundraising
committees, based in all of the UK water
    industry's organisations (public and private),
enabled well organised, high quality fundraising
    events to take place.
  • 1989 privatisation of the water industry The
newly formed companies and government bodies and
their many staff pledged to continue their
support for WaterAid's work and to this day
remain a valuable and pro-active group of core
    supporters.
