Context and process
  • Multicultural approach vv intercultural
    engagement
  • New QCA Secondary curriculum
  • Pilot project involving three High Schools and
    Upper School
  • Limited resources from QCA which was supplemented
    by the Local Authority to fund supply cover/audio
    visual costs and substantial time and physical
    resources from partners, particularly
    Loughborough University and The Baca Project

  • Looking for links with diversity, cohesion and
    belonging through intercultural engagement
  • New QCA curriculum concepts
  • Agreed that belonging would be the central
    theme with explicit links to well-being,
    inclusion and justice

    home and in Loughborough and as a citizen in the
    UK?
  • Next step
  • Needed to know the views of students to inform
    the curriculum planning therefore questionnaires
    and interviews held in November/early December 07

  • To increase awareness and understanding of how
    people are able to belong to several groups
    whilst still retaining their own identity
    recognising how this changes over time

  • Understand the factors which enable young people
    to feel they belong
  • Recognise the groups they belong to, how they
    overlap and help to shape identity
  • Develop the skills to manage change effectively.
