13Brief overview of The Blueprint The
Blueprint is an invitation to each employee to
advance their career at Builders Bloc. It is
also a road map because it shows an employee the
path and expectations for career advancement.
For every skill set identified in The
Blueprint, a training session is offered to give
employees the opportunity to learn the needed
skills for career development. Everyone can
benefit by attending additional training that
improves job performance, whether seeking a
promotion, or just wanting to learn more about a
particular activity.
14- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How do I get into the Blueprint Program?
- You must talk with your direct supervisor and get
permission to enter the program. If your
supervisor does not think you are ready for the
program, he/she will explain to you why you need
to wait. Once your supervisor gives approval to
enter the program, you must both sign an entry
sheet that will be turned in to Paul Renaud. - Q. After I get approval to enter the program,
what happens? - You will set up an appointment with Paul Renaud
for an initial interview with an explanation of
all requirements of the program. - Once I have taken the classes required, will I be
promoted? - No, classes account for 25 of advancement
requirements. 25 is measured by production
goals and 50 by your safety record. You may get
further explanation of these requirements by
talking with your supervisor. - How will I know what classes to take?
- A. Class requirements are detailed in the
Blueprint career guide for your trade. You may
work with your supervisor to tailor the program
to your specific needs.

18Job Description Congratulations! Foremen are key
members of our leadership team. Should you
decide to remain a Foreman the rest of your
career at Builders Bloc, we will honor and
respect your decision. Whats next? If you
decide to advance your career with Builders
Bloc, training and other opportunities will be
offered. Safety The Builders Bloc goal and
expectation is zero accidents on all jobs. Our
expectation is for you and your crew to be
accident free. You must have no safety violations
from routine observations or safety inspections
for you and your crew(s) for twelve (12) months
from the date of your interview. Expectations Br
ing a great attitude demonstrate honesty,
integrity and leadership. Be familiar with the
history, mission statement and organizational
structure of Builders Bloc. Present yourself and
the organization in a professional manner
including dress code, dialog, conduct, etc. Have
the ability to complete and understand field
reports. Willing to offer and receive
constructive criticism and coaching. Demonstrate
the ability to maintain targeted profitability
for your crew(s). Should be a job running
foreman, supervising multiple crews. Training
and Education (Personal) (employee must keep a
written record of training) You must
satisfactorily complete the following

Usage 10 Hour OSHA Take any sessions required to
become a foreman, if not previously taken. Other
requirements before advancing to Senior
Foreman Complete a final Senior Foreman test to
the satisfaction of management. Successfully
recruit at least 2 employees into the blueprint
program. AT THE POINT WHEN YOU AND YOUR
SUPERINTENDENT FEEL YOU ARE READY FOR ADVANCEMENT
YOU SHOULD REQUEST AN INTERVIEW WITH YOUR
SUPERVISOR AND THE GENERAL MANAGER BOTH OF WHICH
MUST BE SATISFACTORY FOR A PROMOTION.

- Through this program, there have been
advancements in these areas - 3 foremen
- 21 senior foremen
- 5 superintendents
- 2 Assistant General Managers
- 5 Employees nearly at Field Manager level
- 2004 included 3000 training hours
26Current Training
- There are presently 139 field and office
employees enrolled in this program, including
Chicago and Kansas City. - We presently offer approximately 40 different
sessions in house, plus additional training at
outside sources when necessary. - Most sessions last 1-3 hours, mid afternoon.
- Journeymen attend on their own time.
- Foremen are paid approximately ½ of their
training time with ½ on their own time. - Saturday and evening sessions are offered as
well.

- Monthly safety meetings (All managers)
- Monthly safety subcommittee meetings (management
and field) - Monthly, quarterly and annual safety awards
- Daily posting of accident free days (in offices
and on website) - Immediate accident review meeting with injured
party, managers and president - Monthly tracking and reporting of safety by
manager, zone, etc. - Worked with Carpenters union to incorporate drug
testing and OSHA 10 hour - President called and copied on every report of
injury - Personal call to all injured parties by Chairman,
President or General Manager - ACIG manager provides quarterly audit and update
of safety programs - Annual Safety Banquet
- Consulted with large local GC to incorporate
