  • Clay Local School District since 2002
  • Starting testing trixbox January 2007
  • Deployed June 2007
  • 560 students K-12
  • 3 buildings, 3 separate voip servers
  • 100MB fiber connection between sites.
  • 42 classrooms
  • 77 phone extensions
  • 10 POT lines total
  • Previous phone network was Verizon Nortel
    key-based PBX with 14 extensions

  • Started out in 04 as Asterisk_at_Home
  • trixbox CE is free open source version
  • Designed to be simple, quick, and easily
    customizable
  • Comes as a ISO download
  • Web-based configuration
  • Also available as trixbox pro
  • pre-installed appliance
  • pay-per-use support
  • Current version is trixbox CE 2.6.1
  • Also available as a VMWare image.
  • VMWare image NOT for production environment

Installing trixbox
  • trixbox comes as an easy install ISO appliance
  • Install guide I used

  • Main thing to consider is Linux compatible NIC
    (3com and Intel Pro cards work best)
  • Not enough time to scratch install today.
  • So we'll start with a VMWare image and focus on
    configuration and functions.
  • VMWare trixbox is great for testing and sandbox
    activies, but doesn't work well for production
    systems.
  • Test on VM before installing
