    opportunities

8
DISTANCE
  • Traditional training methods and delivery the
learner goes to a learning event in person.
  • New direction for training methods and delivery
a learning experience comes to the learner as
often as possible based on type and topic of
    training.
  • Minimizes cost of training and associated travel
  • Leverages availability of technology to support
    training delivery
  • Allows for delivery method to be tailored to the
    specific group of learners
  • Continues to allow for all delivery methods but
    focuses on distance learning.

9
DISTANCE
  • Distance learning is not new
    to us!

    processes
  • New worker

10
DISTANCE
  • Products
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • CBTs
  • Training packets/Workbooks (PDF, Word Documents)
  • Classroom environments
  • Live classroom
  • WisLine Web - offer classes
  • BlackBoard, Desire2Learn, etc. - offer courses
  • Pathlore Learning Management System (LMS)
  • An LMS automates and allows tracking of training
    events, regardless of delivery method
  • The current Pathlore (f.k.a Registrar) system
is being automated to include full LMS
    functionality

11
DISTANCE
  • There are different models that incorporate
    distance learning
  • Exclusive distance methods (e.g. an Authorware
    CBT)
  • Blended learning - a mixture of delivery
methods (e.g. a CBT packaged with a face to face
    on site support event)
  • Supported vs. independent events
  • Supported - learning event is offered in
conjunction with on site support, facilitation,
    technical assistance
  • Independent - learning event is offered with
    minimal support

12
DISTANCE
  • How is it decided if distance is the right
    delivery method?
  • Because of requests and needs expressed by
customers, the process will start with an
    assumption of distance delivery
  • There are tools and resources available to help
evaluate delivery methods based on the type of
    training and the intended audience
  • Distance learning will not replace face to face
training, however face to face training will
    become less frequent
  • Face to face training is not the same thing as
classroom training - classroom training can occur
    virtually.

13
DISTANCE
  • Learners need a workload management approach for
    distance learning
  • Learning opportunities are important regardless
of where or how they occur
  • Tools, strategies and best practices to learn how
to manage distance learning need to be shared
  • Pathlore will allow better management of learning
    events
  • We need to be mindful of agency IT issues in
order to allow the maximum benefit from distance
    learning opportunities
  • Information will be disseminated to better allow
supervisors and workers to manage distance
learning events in their daily routines -
    specifics will be available soon

14
DISTANCE
  • Upcoming initiatives that may utilize distance
    learning techniques
  • DHFS/IM
  • Transitional Food Stamps
  • FS Reduced Reporting Phase 2a/2b
  • BadgerCare Verification
  • CARES Web user Interface (Worker Web)
  • DWD/WD
  • Performance standards
  • ASSET expansion
  • Transitional Jobs
  • Continued use of distance learning in new worker
    training

15
BLENDED SERVICES

    technical assistance services
