Use of IPEDS

• Provides basic data needed to describe and
  analyze trends in postsecondary education in the
  U.S.

  associations, private businesses, media,
  students, and parents
• More than 6,700 institutions complete IPEDS
  surveys each year

  entire IPEDS system)

• Control or affiliation

• Residence of first time students

  characteristics of scientists and engineers in
  the U.S.
• May be used for both policy analysis and general
  research, having features for casual and more
  intensive data users
