3WHAT MAKES THE CBU?
- The CBU project aims to create joint
Finnish-Russian Masters degree programmes, as
well as find the common basis to develop joint
training programmes for doctoral students - The Final Report of the CBU feasibility study
(2004) - 1. Political will Agreement between EU and
Russia, the summit of Ministries of Education in
November 2005 in St. Petersburg (Natsprojekt) - 2. Academic interest common interests in
regional and in global scale - 3. New and fresh start cooperation from below
and above! Not Potemkins fascades but real
cooperation
4WHAT IS THE JOINT DEGREE?
- The International Joint Degree is a degree, which
is planned and provided jointly by two or more
higher education institutions from different
countries - Possibilities Joint Degree, Double Degree
- Within the CBU long term goal is a Joint Degree,
short term goal a Double Degree (because of the
current legislation in Finland and the Russian
Federation)
5BACKGROUND
- Based on the Finland, Russia and International
Cooperation Action Plan for 2003-2007 of the
Finnish Ministry of Education - Feasibility Study project in 2004 (partner
universities, Finnish Ministry of Education,
other experts from Finland and the Russian
Federation) - Creation of the Development Project and
Development Unit for 2005-2007 (unit exists at
the University of Joensuu)

- Implementation within the Bologna Process (40
partner countries, FIN 1999 and RUS 2003 as well) - Promotion of the international Joint Degrees is
one of the Bologna Process action lines - The CBU is part of the establishment of the EHEA

10ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
- The Finnish-Russian CBU Council is the highest
decision maker and consist of the Rectors or
Vice-Rectors of the partner universities - Working Group preparative body for the Council
(general administration, development issues,
support for the academic teams etc.) - Academic Team consist of the professors and
other teachers of the each particular pilot
programme (responsibility on the curricula etc.) - Development Unit (DU) leads day-to-day
activities of the CBU, works as an executive
organ of the CBU

- Autumn 2005 first test courses (most matured
pilots) - Spring 2007 launch of the masters programmes
(marketing, student selection) - Autumn 2007 first programme students will start
their studies - Spring 2009 first CBU-graduates will complete
their studies - 2010 estimated first intake of the doctoral
candidates
