What is the MEF Certification Program?

• Important part of the Metro Ethernet Forums
  mission to accelerate the deployment of Carrier
  Ethernet in the WAN
• The MEF is rolling out its certification program
  in two phases
• Phase 1 Focus
• Certification for Carrier Ethernet systems and
  equipment that deliver MEF compliant Ethernet
  services
• Phase 2 Focus announcing today!
• Extend the program to assure enterprise and
  residential subscribers that Service Providers
  can deliver consistent Carrier Ethernet services
  compliant with MEF specifications

Phase 1 Certification Achievements

• Program launched with Iometrix in April 2005
• First Certificates awarded at the Carrier
  Ethernet World Congress in Berlin on September
  13th, 2005
• 39 systems from 16 vendors already certified as
  complying with the MEF Carrier Ethernet service
  specifications (MEF 9)

Phase 2 MEF Certification Goals

• Guarantee that subscribers can confidently order
  Ethernet E-Line and E-LAN services that conform
  to MEF service specifications
• Ensure interoperability of Ethernet services
  among service providers, to extend uniform
  Ethernet services end-to-end across providers
• Provide comparative basis for end-customers to
  pick and choose Ethernet services from multiple
  providers
• Make Ethernet services more attractive to
  enterprise subscribers with strict requirements
  for service quality

• Certification tests for Phase 2 are based on MEF
  9 Abstract Test Suite for Ethernet Services at
  the UNI
• Certification Tests are defined for the three
  Ethernet Services
• EPL Services (Ethernet Private Line)
• EVPL Services (Ethernet Virtual Private Line)
• E-LAN Services (Ethernet LAN)
• First group of certified Service Providers will
  be announced 1Q, 2006
